Innovative and Novel DApps - Geon

Howdy Crowdholders!
It seems that the last DApp had you interested so today, I am expanding on this idea of sharing various DApps.

The next DApp I want to showcase you is called Geon. It aims to be a decentralized, gamified app similar to Pokémon Go (which I have to admit, I was playing passionately at some point). With Geon's benefits both to the individuals and businesses, it may as well be the successor to it. So without further ado, what is it about?

After downloading the app, individual users can find several points on the map which they can visit. There is currently over 1.5 million locations and growing. Once user visits the location, they can start mining Geon Coins there and after some while have them transfered to their account. With enough coins, one can choose to exchange them into different rewards - PayPal gift cards, Steam vouchers, Netflix coupons and more to come.

On the other hand, businesses can boost their public visibility by creating those mining spots and then fill it with Geon Coins with as much as they want - more Geon Coins mean more people will visit their location and spend time there. Imagine a tech-savvy coffee shop owner that wants to boost sales. They create the mining spot, potential customers can come and since they have to spend time to mine, they might as well go into the coffee shop.

What I like about this idea is how it forces people to go out and find new, interesting places they probably wouldn't find out about otherwise. Plus, doing an activity while earning some money is benefitial both to health and finances of individuals. With the waiting period of mining, it also seems as a great way to spread out the name of many shops.

So what do you think?
I have some questions for you:

  1. Would you download this DApp and participate in it by mining? Why yes or why not?

  2. What other examples of shops could use this technology?

  3. Where do you see some weak points of this DApp?

Firstly, downloading Apps is not the issue here but benefits attached to it,anywhere one can get some marketable coins is good to be and I think Geon will not be exemption, mining coins when checking shops will truly increase visibility of the business and eventually increase patronage. So if properly implemented it is an opportunities for shop owners to gain more customers and at the same time it gives back to the community, I will download the app if the coin is tradable as you rightly say it can be converted to different rewards.

There is no shops that this apps will not benefit from Tea shops to grocery shops, supermarkets and stores, Ticketers and aviation industries, hotels and recreational centres, to create awareness of your business you will need this app.

The weakness I can point out here is conversion of coins, while PayPal gifts card,or Netlix,PayPal is not cross border, some countries were not accepted by PayPal, why not better Bitcoin or ETherium the worldwide acceptable coins. This kind of app should be decentralized, also they should increase their products more than game, hames app as been so common and more needs to be added.

Wishing you best in your endeavor

Would you download this DApp and participate in it through mining?
In my case, I might use it eventually, as I don't move around too much but maybe it would be an option to make many referrals. In the case of people who tend to use recreational applications like games, this is a good point because they know the mechanics of pokemon go and receive real rewards. With the approach of encouraging companies to create "seams," I think is very good entrepreneurship.

What other examples of stores could use this technology?
Some stores that could use this app are stores that currently accept crypto coins and can't find a customer base with crypto coins. Accepting the currency of the ecosystem or adding their own could encourage the formation of a new user base.

Where do you see some weaknesses in this DApp?
As a weak point, I see the controversy generated by multiple events of distracted users. So I would implement a policy of mandatory pop-ups in which warns to hydrate if it's hot, warm if it's cold. Take a break from the application before crossing avenues and other types of awareness messages.

So true about looking before crossing. With Pokemon Go, there were news stories in my area about people just walking right into the street!

I have not been a fan of "Ad blocking" entirely, cos It was beneficial to me at some point in life. But that does not mean that one should not have the liberty to choose what to view and what not to view. I have not used any ad blocker, I quite restrict the site I visit and have not really gotten any weird ads, not that I can remember, most ads I have gotten are either related to a site I have previously visited, or their possible substitute. Thanks.

  1.  I downloaded it but I deleted it after few days because it was using to much battery 🔋 My data is unlimited I really don’t know how much it uses because I don’t care about that.

  2. Library and cafes can use this more

  3. the app uses to much battery 🔋 and I think data to. For a lot of people data is big problem because it’s still expensive for phones

Karen M guru

Wouldn't it be a shame if your phone died from playing a game, then you had a true need to use the phone. I wonder if they can alter the app to use less battery?

1) i would download the app and mine with it . if it slows down my phone or if it uses too much internet data then I will not use it.

2) Gyms, supermarkets with cafes, shopping malls, leisure centres, libraries, cinemas, tech conventions, festivals and internet cafes.

3) It would sometimes rely on data and the battery usage of the app are 2 things that spring to mind.

I can say with much assurance that I would certainly download this DApp and participate by mining. As you stated, it is a good way to get out and see new things as well as earn some money. It’s just an interesting and fresh idea, I’m on board!

Examples of some other shops that could use this technology would be barber shop/hair dresser, grocery store, casino, restaurant/cafe, & really any business in which you rely on customers coming to your store. (I hope I answered the question properly)

Would you download this DApp and participate in it by mining? Why yes or why not?
I might try it out for the fun of it. I don't see myself regularly using it. I don't see a lot of utility in a product like this aside from advertising. I'm currently attempting to focus my technology use on functional / productive pursuits and I can't see a personal case for using this on a regular basis.

What other examples of shops could use this technology?
Physical locations: Dance clubs, libraries, concert venues, theater/theatres, lecture venues, gyms, yoga studios, historical sites, churches.
Public figures: Musical artists, speakers, book tours, conferences, trade events might all also utilize it to promote tours and events.

Where do you see some weak points of this DApp?
Like others' comments, I don't like that the coin is traded in for gift cards, it makes it seem like a cheesy novelty. Remove that and then I don't have much of a value case for the coin. I think it would be cooler if something more technologically useful was happening while "mining." I mean, what are you really "mining"? Time? I think that's a misuse of the terminology.

Karen M guru

If the coin was traded in for gift cards to the places you visit, that could be a bonus. It helps the businesses who participate to bring in more business. It helps the user who goes to those establishments to save money by visiting again. Seems like a win-win.

Yes, I see that. (BTW- just reread others comments, and I must've made up that the rewards as a weakness had already been mentioned). From what I can see gift cards are the main thing that gives the coin value as an owned asset. However, that aspect makes it more like a credit card reward program than a blockchain-based cryptocurrency. It's like Foursquare with rewards. To survive as a blockchain app, I think it will have to do something a bit more clever with data collection / "mining" while at a shop to survive. Maybe it is and I didn't see that on the website. That, to me, will prove a real value to the technology and thus, the coin.

Just came across a potential partner for this dapp on Publish0x - #Moozicore https://www.publish0x.com/ebridan/moozicore-worlds-first-legal-mu...
Looks like a blockchain based jukebox for local businesses. I could see "mining" data on musical preferences at bars and coffee shops being an interesting use case that would add value to this project in the form of data.

# i would download the app and mine with it insofar as it does not interfere with my normal usage of the phone, if it slows down my phone or if it uses too much internet data then I will not use it.

# there are many kinds of shop's that can use these kinds of services, from services shops like a cafe, restaurant, casinos, etc to sales shop; like supermarket, hardware shop, etc, and also i think this app can be used in institutions such as school, etc.

# I have not noticed any weak point in-app but will keep looking, A very nice app with a wonderful project.

The part I am really worried about is the part that says over 1.5million points available to be visited, how can one find the right place to visit, and how can one know where he has visited already. I might be tempted to say that since so many points are available then the mining dividend might be small due to the large shared resources.

But I think that this will also help; to increase its value in a short time as persons try to get their hands on it, i will be very much interest in getting my hands on something like this and I will also tell friends about it, because I hope it will come with a referral package also. A very nice idea indeed.

1) Yes I would use this app as it sounds just like something I'd be interested in. I love all the pokemon games and have played Pokemon Go, so the added element of going to different spots to mine sounds like a brilliant idea to me.

2) Gyms, supermarkets with cafes, shopping malls, leisure centres, libraries, cinemas, tech conventions, festivals and internet cafes.

3) It would sometimes rely on data and the battery usage of the app are 2 things that spring to mind.

  1. Would you download this DApp and participate in it by mining? Why yes or why not? I have already downloaded the app and install it. What I liked about the app is that even I installed the app I can set the Location service on " while I am using the app" which is good, otherwise it would kill the battery and the life of the phone battery.
  2. What other examples of shops could use this technology? I think it can work in many shops but for that Goen have to have many users and then they can reach to any shop that they want to increase there sale by connecting to the app.

  3. Where do you see some weak points of this DApp?

  • When we are mining the coin I don't see the point waiting for 30sec I think the best option will be to click on the coin when we reach there and it pops in our wallet
  • If we have to wait for a 10Geon 30sec then why not 15sec for 5Geon.
  • I thought that the Geon is a coin but it is sad to see it is just a tool that is using in the app only. If the coin is introduced for the app then that will be great.
  • I have seen that there are some spots that are " one time" only which is ok but the other spot which is still not much and also if you mine a coin in a spot once then the next time you have to wait 30day which is a long period. I think once a day or 2 days will be a good option.

A question I want to ask:

  • The miners and Geons Ranking, how they are 2 different things?

The app is great but first you need more users and then reach out to shop owner to see ur Geon.

I would like to see a system that authenticates the Geon owner. The app should reward the property owner. Imagine, if Pepsi tags the shops that sell Coca Cola.

I downloaded GEON DApp because I am also interested in new gamified app and want to do this task you proposed. Of course I will participate by mining because if I have to go to a coffee shop or restaurant nearby and there is a place to mining there (ie a GEON subscriber), do not I go to work and do mining as well?

Examples of using this technology are coffee shops, restaurants, shopping malls, and saunas.

I really like this concept and would download it if there's real benefits to be gained: discount, tickets, coupons, etc. and the locations are reachable by foot. And most importantly: my information/paypal account, etc is kept private.

Some suggestions on how this concept could be expanded:

  1. Geocatch variation open to the public
  2. A specific puzzle/clue game where you find stuff to solve a mystery
  3. For students: where you have to find badges and collect monuments
  4. For bachelors/team building: Solve mystery + there are coupons for drinks/foods hidden at certain places. Each solved mystery leads to the location to the next
  5. Expand the way things can be found: for example - take a picture of X. or Visit the shop, leave a review and unlock...

I don't know whether these spots are real or virtual. If real, I wouldnt move to any place just to mine coins unless each coin exceeds a certain price threshold. Therefore I won't download it. I would be a bit skeptical.

I don't quite understand the dapp so can't tell which stores can use it. Maybe a website might help.

The weakers I see is the mining at specific spots and not everywhere.

I'm more experience and know the circulation in this Blockchain Industry.

I truly like this thought as an enthusiast of Ingress and Geo store recreations. Damnation no doubt, I would. You need to solicit yourself what is the point from playing these sorts of diversions with nothing to win. You just acquainted the appropriate response with.

Different shops that could utilize this tech. Well every physical store would need individuals playing in expectations you would visit there store to dig and get limits for there merchandise and ventures. I could envision gaming stores to exploit this.

The feeble purposes of this dapp.? I generally consider individuals utilizing endeavors and gps rendering. Somebody may probably sit at home and make it appear as though they are going around making the showing

1. Would you download this DApp and participate in it by mining? Why yes or why not?

Yes, I would download this app because who doesn't want gift cards or Netflix coupons? Unless you hate gifts or movies, you should definitely have this app. Then again, even if you don't like them you can give them to a friend or sibling as a form of recommendation to use the app. Furthermore, the fact that you can also create your own mining spots is not only great for businesses but great for the promotion of personal projects such as websites, songs and music videos.

2. What other examples of shops could use this technology?

  • Markets or shopping malls
  • Book shops
  • Race tracks (even though it's not a shop)
  • Restaurants (even though it's not a shop)
  • Tourist attraction sites (even though it's not a shop)

3. Where do you see some weak points of this DApp?

Honestly, I can't find one. I stand to be corrected but I think it's the first dApp of its kind.

Karen M guru

I chose not to download because I don't play internet/video games. I know lots of people do though. Businesses could benefit from this app by driving players/customers during slow times to drive up sales. Maybe an extra game reward for making a purchase at that business would encourage more businesses to participate.i read some reviews in the playstore & while most seem positive, the negative ones had to do with the app not working properly and low rewards. As with any new app, there usually are glitches to be worked out. So pay attention to what your users say & correct what you can.

I would hesitate to download the app unless it had major backing like mcd or something.

I could see where there is a small amount of cash for showing up at a mall or whatever.

The downside is showing up isn't the same as spending money.  The rebate and receipt market is very crowded.  It may be hard to get a payout if it isn't combined with other featurez

I'm sugar, spice and everything nice

I installed the Geon App and used it for about a week. It does have that Pokémon Go feel to it and my work takes me around my city. However some mine zones where impossible to get to physically and that was annoying since I felt like wasted effort in trying in the first place.

The rewards for the effort when I was successful was meagre. In a nutshell I calculated that it would take me a lifetime to get something of value. Could be it's my country. Maybe there are areas with more Geon points that are not so far apart.

Still, I like the idea of Geon. It just did not work for me.

Don't listen to me because of who I am, I'm nobody like everone else.

Nice find.

I doubt if I would use it myself because I assume the rewards are not very high and it migh take time and be a hassle to do. I still think it could be a good idea though and I'm sure others will use it. If the locations are nice / interesting that could definitely make it more appealing to use and if I heard about good experiences from others using it and I had some spare time I may be tempted to use it as much for a bit of fun as for the rewards.

Bitcoin ATMs might be able to use it to draw attention to their location from people who have a good chance of being Bitcoin users. Fairs, travelling markets and other temporary events where the main point is to draw a crowd who then mill around and look if there is anything they like could do well with it also.

I already mentioned what I think are the main weak points, but perhaps I would also say for the moment the withdrawal options may be also a weak point, but you say they are being expanded so that may not matter for long.

I am excited about the future of all crypto currency.

I really like this idea as a fan of Ingress and Geo cache games.

Would I downloadload this app and start mining?

Hell yeah, I would. You have to ask yourself what is the point of playing these kinds of games with nothing to win. You just introduced the answer to why.

Other shops that could use this tech. Well every brick and mortar store would want people playing in hopes you would visit there store to mine and get discounts for there goods and services. I could imagine gaming stores to take full advantage of this.

The weak points of this dapp.? I always think of people using exploits and gps rendering. Someone might be able to sit at home and make it look like they are running around playing the game.
