Hello Crowdholders,

Today we would love to introduce ourselves. We're Edziban Hub. Edziban is the Fante name for food. Fante is a local language in Ghana.

Currently, we are at an early stage and we can't wait to work more with you to improve our product ✊

Curious about who we are and what’s our business is about?

Problem:

The grocery market has been slow to adopt online sales in Ghana, but the latest trends show that it is about to change. Online shopping is on the rise, but for further adoption, it must solve several obstacles, among them the preservation and delivery challenges. Different players try to approach this challenge differently; our unique solution is the network is through a mobile market bus – MobiMarts. This model, after successful implementation and acceptance, will make it the starting point of the network we want to build in multiple cities around the world but first in our home country of Ghana.

The current grocery market is still dominated by big brick & mortar retail chains, which causes several anomalies on the market. Retailers are pushing producers to lower their prices, yet not transferring these price savings to end consumers and not participating in producer’s risks. End consumers are confronted with highly-priced convenience foods and yet they cannot influence the supply as they could if they had more direct access. This can be changed but requires a different business model for online grocery sales.

We look to disrupt the global grocery market, one of the biggest consumer markets, which is forecasted to reach $11 trillion in 2021.

Our Product:

We envision a global ecosystem of consumers and producers, big and small being directly connected through a global e-commerce platform and approaching the markets locally. To build this, we want to develop an innovative online marketplace, Edziban Hub, using open source technologies plus a network of MobiMarts (buses).

Our MobiMarts will present one of the best and most appealing solutions available for any market and multiple case use scenarios, among which grocery delivery presents the biggest potential for exponential growth in upcoming years. Therefore, it is of strategic importance to further build up the network in other AU metropolises as well.

With Edziban Hub - Don’t stand in lines, Enjoy life! We bring the market to your doorstep.

We know how to create a solution that benefits all parties (Farmers, Consumers and us). By using technologies, the ecosystem will be built on transparency, trust and decentralization.

End consumers will gain lower prices, diversity and high-quality fresh food, traceability of products, sale promotions offered directly by Edziban Hub on behalf of producers and convenience of delivery.

Food and grocery products will get new, direct access to end consumers at reasonable prices plus the possibility to create effective sale promotions and consumers’ feedback to improve their offer.

And with the ongoing business model developments of the envisioned ecosystem, even more, widespread acceptance of the marketplace by the general community will follow.

The global grocery market is undergoing some of the most dramatic changes in history, partly due to internal factors, such as the changes in consumer behavior and new producers entering the market, and partly due to external factors such as technology, which opens the doors to new innovative models, thus disrupting the market.

To build the e-commerce platform and further develop the ecosystem we need your support.

The idea itself looks great. We have some similar services here in Europe and it functions really well. Just make sure that your service will be reliable. Your reliability can be your marketing advantage, especially when speaking about spreading the news from mouth to mouth. In business people often just aim for the money and forget about long term credibility. However, in the long term, it is thing that decides if company will survive and prosper, or it will die.

Therefore, in my opinion in order to succeed you should:

1. Provide fast and reliable deliveries
2. Make sure that goods you will deliver will really be of good quality
3. Do not make any shortcuts. Companies often do shortcuts to increase profit, on the long term it is a very bad idea.
4. Take care of your reputation and integrity. Nobody likes companies without integrity.
5. Be kind to customers.

In the end, I wish you all the best luck with your business! ;)

It sounds as if Utopia has already come. End consumers will gain lower prices, diversity and high-quality fresh food, traceability of products - these are great words. But as an ordinary buyer, I do not understand how this is achieved? For example, here is a sample of a cover letter https://resumesbot.com/mechanic-cover-letter/ Here is an example, and below is a detailed explanation of what and why to write in a given column. And in your article I see only a general idea, no specific explanations. What pricing mechanism will provide me with affordable products? What are the special promotions and offers? For me personally, there is not enough specificity and examples. But I like the idea.">https://resumesbot.com/mechanic-cover-letter/ Here is an example, and below is a detailed explanation of what and why to write in a given column. What is your first impression?

The idea is good and interesting for users. Although you are in an initial face, you notice that there is work behind and that there is the intention to do things well. However, I recommend that you provide more information to the reader so that it is understood in the best possible way and in the smallest detail on what you are based and how you work, in order to attract all target audiences. Also tell you that I think you have a future because, at least here in Spain, the topic of fresh food is very fashionable and its intention to improve delivery.

How would you go about putting together a unique food delivery service compared to companies trying to enter this market?

Here you have different options, some of them already said by users here:

a) A good idea would be to identify patterns of orders, to find out how often someone orders a product and if their neighbours order the same product and thus streamline and optimize logistics by creating models through artificial intelligence and machine learning. This would above all avoid the economic problem that arises when people order small quantities.

b) Another way would be to try to make a mechanism in which orders could be established from one day to the next. This would be very beneficial for you, your customers and the consumer, as it would avoid extra costs, time, etc, and the fresh product would be excellent.
For example, you could consider setting up partnerships with the farmers themselves, in order to purchase some of these foods directly.

Partnering with the farmers may be a very good idea.

the next step, and that is to try to earn some money out of it, and i thought to grow and sell the largely in popularity rising natural health beneficial herbs to start with, since thay need little space. But then the next part comes, how to distribute and market it. A project like yours would come in very helpful for people like me thatif you do this a lot; getting to know the market and trying to breach I those gaps than you will move faster. I don't know what it is like in your area but getting to know the little loops and how to solve those will be a huge boost to you.there are many different ways to transport your products. One of the most awesome and innovative ways to do this, which also will boost your marketing is to use drones for local deliveries. It's been shown by Amazon that it's possible. In Africa

Amazon plans to use drones here in US also . I don't think Kaaba will have the budget for that at the early stages.

This is a very nice idea and a very nice startup to be able to see the need of the society and provide a very good solution to it I read through the above extract and I find it really forthcoming this is my contribution to the project.

1. in where i live there is a high ned and use of online means of business which covers sectors such as transportation, food delivery, online shopping and such but with these new ones are coming up every day but some are making it more than the others, the reason is because those ones do more market survey than the others, so if you do this a lot; getting to know the market and trying to breach I those gaps than you will move faster. I don't know what it is like in your area but getting to know the little loops and how to solve those will be a huge boost to you.

2. Another will be to start a direct partnership with the farmers, that is so that in the direct future you will be able to start or acquire a farm on ur ow where you will be able to plant some of these foods materials directly.

3. I see from the previous that you are already in direct contact with some drivers to deliver this fod stuff, I think that you can also do free delivery also, such that person can sign up and get paid a stipend whenever they get some delivery done with this way you might not need to acquire many cars for the delivery purpose but will use this to meet the immediate needs of an area.

4. I think also that you might need to start acquiring some properties so that in the future you will be able to get loans if necessary using the property that you have as a means for collateral.

First Impressions?

I guess this is a good thing. I personally derive pleasure from grocery shopping myself. I think a lot of people do too and some it is not about what you buy but who you're buying it from. Hence the problem you mentioned on adoption.

"We look to disrupt the global grocery market, one of the biggest consumer markets, which is forecasted to reach $11 trillion in 2021"

That's like saying you want to have a negative negative impact on the market. Maybe think of changing the term disrupt.

Grocery market is generally localized so your attention should be on the market in Ghana.

"How would you go about putting together a unique food delivery service compared to companies trying to enter this market?"

No beats competition more than transparency, price and quality. Offer free delivery that's within a short distance from the depot.

This project has a very huge potential, I will be happy to see it succed in the future. Food was always a main component of human culture and this idea you got with the market to connect the customer with the seller and provide delivery, is a working model these days. God bless your project and I am waiting to see you in the future guys!

Don't forget to use your upvotes. You will earn from that too.

Hi, first of all, i got instantly in love with this project. It's awesome. It will help your country a lot. Ghana does already very well compared to many other African countries, but with this being successful it can help other countries to change their ways too to benefit the local people more then the multinationals that only want to harvest money out of the continent. I followed on Twitter and like on Facebook.

Since our (shadow) governments are pushing to create food scarcity on a global level, i started to make preparations to grow my own food at home. I had the goal to become completely independent the industry with their false prizes and their poisoned food. And it looks like i will become successful in that part, complete self sustainable. I grow both inside and outside of my house. So my thoughts go out for the next step, and that is to try to earn some money out of it, and i thought to grow and sell the largely in popularity rising natural health beneficial herbs to start with, since thay need little space. But then the next part comes, how to distribute and market it. A project like yours would come in very helpful for people like me that want to earn some honest money for honest products without selling your soul to the corrupt food industry. It's great.

Now we live in an era with enormous technical progress for good and for bad. So there are many different ways to transport your products. One of the most awesome and innovative ways to do this, which also will boost your marketing is to use drones for local deliveries. It's been shown by Amazon that it's possible. In Africa there is more sunlight then there is here, so when you can use drones with solar packs on board, it can charge itself while flying to expand its ratio.

I remember those driving groceries from the 1980s here and they were rather successful, but the whole idea isn't really that from this time anymore. At least not in the western countries. But iwe see many more things from passed times coming back and being popular. But i would choose drones for sure personally, but it also has it's limits in some area's so there you could stick to the Mobimarts. I would use electrical driven cars and even though the climate change is artificial i would have text on the cars that say they drive environmental friendly on green energy, since people love that idea and they will embrace your company in their hearts easier .

I wish you good luck growing and expanding your company, and i love the idea and as soon as you come to conquer Europe i will be the first to try to become a producer for you.

In my country there are already a lot of companies that provide similar services but most of them deliver to specific cities and areas only which is a problem as far as your project is concerned i do like the idea and i think you should cover all areas in a country and try to cover as many countries qs possible because trend is easily moving to online shopping now worldwide.

This is a great project and I wish you all the best to make it happen.

In France there are some delivery services however they are expensive and we are not always sure to have the quality we paid for. Usually producer to consumer sales are made through specialized stores.

I like the idea of the mobimarts, it looks like a good idea to reduce the delivery cost to something reasonable.

Good luck in your endeavor

This is a common model where I'm from (and it's a good one). Just make sure to set a minimum limit for each order so that it's economically worth it to make the delivery. And make sure your delivery guys are getting paid will, if they aren't receiving tips, because they are going to be the entire basis of your service. Good luck!

Reading your business plan, I feel you have done a lot of detailed research in the market about what the consumers need and how best to make it accessible to them.

One problem you might see is if people order small amounts it will not be economical to send it by delivery guy.

A good idea will be to identify regular ordering patterns, example find out how frequently someone orders a product and if his neighbours order same product and make the delivery guy do more economical route and you save on logistics cost.

Just a common Crypto enthusiast.. Wait crypto is not common it's special :)

Sounds like an amazing initiative. It will surely not be an easy task as you must be aware that globally the Walmarts, Costos, Aldis, Carrefour etc are giving a tough time to local grocery initiatives and competing with them on price will be tough as they play with huge volumes so can maintain very small margins.

What I find most interesting about your project are the following:

  • Helping the farmers- I know the conditions for small farmers are very bad in developing countries. Anything you can do to help them is commendable. If you try to remove some middlemen between farmers and consumers it will give you some extra margin which can be passed to farmers.
  • Natural food- This will give you edge over retail giants, if you can guarantee fresh food free from chemicals and pesticides
  • MobiMarts- I don't know details but these can help you with awareness. One big challenge with online shopping of food is that people like to see and feel their food before buying. So through your MobiMarts if they have already seen your products it will be easier to move the market online.

All the best, I really hope you can make a change in the life of farmers.

Well Walmart sure is as it's already got stores in more than 25 countries. Costco, Aldi etc are stronger in US and Europe respectively but my point was their scale of operation is so large that they make small competing stores go out of business. Not sure if Africa has a big retail chain.

MobiMarts ( Mobile Market) - is a van or bus converted into a mini market stocked with fresh food and situated at vantage areas where buyers can choose and buy from the available options.

Mail-order is one way around it I suppose.  Maybe you want a farmers market so that you control the retail part of it.  Some would suggest that you go to the resteraunt s and ask them what they want.  You could try freeze drying the product to get the weight down or targeeting the survivalist market.

Glad to see you already working on this Kaaba. I don't know much about your MobiMarts but I'm thinking these buses will be like "moving markets for vegetables". I see a lot of delivery vans/trucks in Accra so I understand your concept quite well. Your idea is very feasible and your plan of cutting down cost is also great considering how consumers are cheated in terms of pricing in cities in Ghana. I've seen a couple of trucks delivering edibles to homes but I never bothered to ask who was delivering them or who was ordering them. I can honestly say that your idea is already being used in Accra but not as efficiently as you explain it. Also, I've not seen "a network of buses" delivering fresh farm produce as you explain. With this plan in place, I think you've laid the foundation for a very solid brand that can go very far. I'm sure you know how Voltic distributes water throughout suburbs in Accra. They have lots of trucks for distribution and have built a very large customer base (both wholesale/retail and home delivery customers) just from branding and advertisements. However, I've not seen their personal website before (because it's not their best way of attracting customers) and they also don't have an app. I have distributed water from them before and I can even honestly say home delivery isn't their focus. However, when they go to homes who haven't even ordered anything, their products are still bought because of their brand.

I believe with the delivery system you suggest you can create that type of branding - the branding that not only a website and an app can create but also one that word-of-mouth can sustain. You know this is crucial to marketing in GH.

You also said in one of your responses that you are currently tending to the requests of a few people in a small area. This is the best way to start. After you have a good grasp of that area, you move on to others. By others, I mean other easily navigable areas; places that can be located on Google Maps and places with good roads. You know how roads can worry in our country. Then you must also give priority to policemen. You know how they can be a very big hindrance to business, stopping you for hours and delaying your delivery just because of some frivolous reasons.

I'll advise you to also create a list of contacts/email list that you can send out weekly notifications to. In Ghana, we don't really use emails for businesses that much so you can prioritise the mobile numbers more and send weekly texts to each number via bulk text messaging.

I think it's a good idea and very potential. Here in Korea, with rapid development of the Internet and food delivery related apps, food delivery service including fresh food has been running for many years, and now the related business is developing very rapidly.

To avoid excessive initial investment, it is better to leave the delivery to a delivery company first. As you may know, it must have some vehicle to keep food fresh during delivery. I think it would be too much to cover all the tasks and set the budget. It will be time and overy money consuming.

I think it would be better to only play a role of connecting producers and consumers. First of all, you need to study related products, related domestic law about food delivery if there. And I hope you make related app. In addition, food hygiene is very important, so you would be very careful.
Providing a unique high-quality food delivery service will be a fast and safe first priority. The issue of price and profit will naturally be solved as the volume of services grows.

I am a Mechanical Engineer with expertise in power and Mecha-tronics. An Entrepreneur

This is a very good idea and a very good way to make things easier and better for consumers.

From the intro, I will say that you guys are still in a very early stage because I cannot find any link to a website neither to a project page with more details about the project or start-up. I will also say that there are few pieces of information in the intro which means that much still needs to be done.

1. I will say that you can start with branding, that is creating a logo brand, and also a website where you will post things about your website it will be easier as it will create more visibility to your site, make it easier to use and to be able to keep track of progress.

if no plan for a serious website yet then you can at least get a domain and build a little website where you will be predicting customer to, you can be uploading just blog post there for the main time, the aim is to make a web presence first before the main project starts.

2. since you are dealing with the perishable goods i will say that you need to work with very good marketers so that you will be able to practice the purchase on order basis, that is you will only buy the goods that have been ordered from the marketers and distribute then directly to the buyer without any need for storage, in this way waste will be avoided and also money that might have been spent on storage will also be avoided.

3. one best way to deal with perishable goods is to introduce overnight ordering: that is the consumer orders food that he might or wants a day before and the food/foodstuff is delivered to him the next day, in this way it will save the consumer time and avoid omission and also save you cost on transportation and delivery because you will be able to deliver many goods to different consumer with the same means.

I will say also that you study a lot the default way that people like getting things from the market and then devise ways to make it better or more useful, you can also use questionnaire for this process as it will help a lot.

success in your endeavour.

Don't listen to me because of who I am, I'm nobody like everone else.

It all sounds great but I'm slightly skeptical you will be able to offer lower prices. Similar services in the UK where you get fresh produce straight from source end up being a hell of a lot more expensive. Maybe it won't be exactly the same in Ghana, I guess it depends on the size of the farms and maybe other factors, but it is a lot easier (and cheaper) for a farmer to sell all his crop in one go to a guaranteed buyer than to have to send them out it dribs and drabs and not know whether they will all  sell before they go bad; that is why supermarkets usually are able to push down prices because actually the farmers do really want to sell to them.

Thank you Dean. I totally agree with You but I stated in the introduction that farmers sell produce at low cost but that price is transferred to the final consumer which makes it expensive. In Ghana, we spend more on importation and considering the weak nature of the Cedi to the Dollar, food stuff are expensive. We want to shift the focus to locally produced quality food stuff. Our prices are low compared to the the current market price. We will start our own farms soon.

Congratulations Kaaba on your first crowdholding task! Your plan is to be commended. I remember you mentioning this idea in the past. Nice to see it is happening for you.           Here in the US ,we have so many delivery services. As they have evolved, the key is to offer same day delivery. I'n order to accomplish this, you will need many drivers. You must have a way to keep cold food cold amd be sure everything is fresh. Order accuracy will go a long way in getting repeat customers. A website or app for ordering and scheduling delivery will increase efficiency. I'm sure you already have some of this worked out. Don't go too big before you know what you're facing and make sure you can handle all the logistics. Good luck to you?
