ICO's have a difficult time these days attracting investors. Are there currently any other options available to crypto projects? and how can / could they benefit investors? Can you imagine other type(s) of initial offerings or crypto funding that are not yet in the ecosystem?

What are the other business funding types that you think are good? Or which do you think are horrible and why? (Eg. VC investment)

The most difficult is when the project demands a high instead and then leaves us sucking finger, this not only the financial investment but the labor also, sometimes the time is dedicated to perform a task and then we are not rewarded.

I'm very new to the crypto world. What I've discovered so far is that there are so many different coins/tokens that it gets confusing. There are also many exchanges & wallets. Some are compatible with others but not all are interchangeable nor can they be linked. I came across a aplatform to learn & earn coins, which is how I learned about crowdholding. I don't get though why I can't keep all my coins/tokens in one wallet. That would be great if everyone could be linked.I hope in the near future this is possible.

Hi! I'm new here. After following crypto for some time, compeition is continually increasing across all coins and some push for a marketing campaign would definately help. Especially something targeted at crypto investors or those looking to start investing in it

I am excited about the future of all crypto currency.

ICO's really need to  step up in marketing and prove themselves as a contender. There are so many crypto options especially now with the legalization of many drugs. Investing in payments for crypto for banks that aren't involved with the Fed offers a great way of avoiding unwanted taxs. Don't think there is some kind of recycling reward for crypto. Imagine  an AI  crypto currency. I like investment pools.

Thanks Elena for the task.

Its really hard for the new ICO's to gain investors since its not proven yet, but i think the developer of a new ICO's should focus on promoting and keeps on sending updates regarding their project, investing in new ICO's is really risky but sometimes its worth it.

ICOs is a great way to promote and attract the investor but there is no reason to hold an ICO at a stage where you hardly have an idea and nothing to share with the people who want to be part of your community or an investor.

Every investor invests only when they see a running product. I have seen some ICOs and I think it will be better for the investor and as well as for that project to held the ICOs when they have something to show or share with people so they can make a good and happy community with more investor in their pockets.

Hm i think ICO and IEO is optimal model
As it says Highbury the only problem of ICO is secure and bad early product (bug web-site, incompetent script support, not anough feedback to investors, no KYC etc) and at the same time high price per token
Like u know when u feels like the only thing ICO wnant is your money - not a good revolutionary product
Bad tokenomic as well. Wnen there is no garanty that big investors sell all tokens after ICO finish and it will lowprice piece of token))
So there is no problem in ICO model in my opinion
Problem is bad realisation of the model.

Brilliant task Elena.

Personally I believe the focus should be on the overall security of these ICO's as there is way too many security breaches from crooks and scammers offering too good to be true deals that never come to fruition, can be quite disheartening for somebody new to ICO's.

If done well then ICO's can be a great way to promote awareness and gain new investors but so many different groups are doing it now, the consumer/investor is now looking for who's doing things differently.

This is where I believe a different approach needs to be taken on the inception of these particular projects .

How about an ICO that isn't an ICO at all? Or a CO for short. This is what I mean. Instead of having an Initial Coin Offering, the team members behind a project can have a coin offering where 30-50% of the coins/tokens are distributed equally to the first adopters of the token who will then decide the value of the coin/token. The adopters should be owners of real world assets and the coin should also be backed by real world assets such as real estate or cash crops such as coffee and cocoa. Then only owners of such assets or cash crops are allowed to participate in  another 30% of the ICO. 10% can be offered to the public, 5% to the creators and the rest as a fund for supporting the community. I know this sounds crazy but why not? We're in 21st century. This might be another type of offering.

Other types of funding I think have not been explored are partnerships with already existing companies that manufacture real world products like cars, home appliances, etc. For example, leaders of a crypto project can partner with Toyota or Nissan in order to receive the funding they want. The value of their coin or token can then be based on the number of cars manufactured daily or sold monthly or yearly worldwide. Another example is partnering with Netflix to receive funding and then basing the value of your coin or token on the number of movies enlisted per day or watched per day. Same can be done with companies such as Coca Cola or Huawei or Exxon Mobil. I think this hasn't been explored yet.

An ICO as a business funding type isn't bad at all. However, the motives behind the project is what renders the ICO a good one or a bad one. I think getting crypto backed by real world assets will go a long way in saving a lot of them.

I think that when ICO's are done righ t they can be a great opportunity to invest but as a few others have commented they have started to get a bad reputation due to scammers and it's getting to the point where everyone who has tried to invest in ICO's at some point has been burnt, some badly, some not so much. There are, however, a few gems out there so it is worth keeping an eye on the market and doing a bit of homework into upcoming projects. Most of the projects i spend my time investing in are well beyong this point or do not have this. 95% of projects will ultimately fail because the market is becoming truly saturated.

With regard to IEOs, again,i would reflect what some others have said. They are quite the rage at the moment and i do believe that now i the time to get involved in them where you can but on a buy in and get out basis as most of the coins will ultimately slump after the IEO craze is over. Its just a big excercie in pump and dump in my opinions and youve got to be fast or you'll get burnt badly most of the time.

I think the best way for projects to get started is the old fashioned way if you like, raise capital through investors. get people excited for the project launch through social media, telegram channels and other forms of advertising and so when your project launches you already have demand, limit your token supply and go from there.

Have acted as an advisor on multiple blockchain & crypto currency related ICO's!

ICOs, STOs and IEOs are the new securitized tokens which the SEC can somewhat control or monitor better than the original Initial Coin Offerings that led into a heap of fraud, crime and deception.

With these new safer offerings there's absolutely little to no need for standard VC investment type funding!

Honestly I have vowed not to involves in any ICO or whatever name they gibe it because have lost several money on buying ICOs that end up to be a scam or that the price drops perpetually below ICO price, how ever you can be luck to get a very good project which can earn you a fortune in no time. So names and process of offer I initial coins is not the matter but who and what are the ideas behind the project is the first thing and how the project is being executing, then the future of the project. A lot of people just want to defraud investors unknowingly and some want to make investors cry after the tokens reach exchange,2017/18 was a very bad years of ICO investments and some people will never pray to witness such.

Personally, it is not the method of raising fund is the problem but the motives of people behind the project is the issue, fund can be raised anyhow but who are the people you are putting your money into their hand.

We need serious law to canter fraudulent fund raising, nothing more.

I think the beauty of cryptocurrency is the obvious one that there are no limits to its creative uses as you can see by the comments below people can be really creative that is why the governments are so afraid well the bankers really that are behind govs when you give people something unlimited as cryptocurrencies and internet It just goes out to guess what kind of uses will crypto and internet have.

As in terms of security risk I think is present everywhere even in the most "secure" money establishment in the world fraud is commited daily basis... but thats not to worry about its what brings people to commit those frauds I think we should ask ourselves and thats strict rules and government tyranny , poverty, anti-social society, eco problems... if we focus solving  these problems people will rely more on strangers and friends will not be scared ...

I would go for ICO just because I still believe in people

There have been too many projects through ICO, STO or IEOs, and many projects of them have failed. Now no one can get the attention of investors, I think.

Investors will ignore any project and any method other than a large corporate project (like Facebook) that is well-defined and usable.

I think that this is a good way to know what the people actually works, for me i will say that the way to attract investment is for icos starters to provide enough proof of what they are fighting for and also what they will achieve in the coming years. Most times icos starters usually get confuse along the way and change plans which usually scare investors, And i will say that more physical means of proof should be provided since this will garenty the investors that their is physical evidence if their projects thereby giving the investor more reason to start something.

IEO's:

At the moment there seems to be a hype around IEO's (Initial Exchange Offerings). Most of them have been a success, especially for the exchanges. I though see no future for IEO's, since they are mainly used to push the exchange and their underlying token, which is needed to buy/emit IEO's. The only advantage of IEO's is, that the exchanges have KYC already implemented and in theory should precheck the company's before an IEO is granted on their exchange. In practice the exchange will allow any IEO project, because the company's have to pay high fees upfront.

vs ICO's:

For me ICO's are still the best way to go, just for the reason that ICO's rely mostly on the decentralized Ethereum protocol in comparison of the ICO's. The disadvantage is that there is no regulation what so ever. I think IEO's need some kind of additional regulation or thrust layer and ICO's will still remain the least costly, lowest barrier system for fundraising. STO's are just a category (Securities, as specified by the US SEC) within the broader ICO system.

ICO's were great at the beginning, i remember that i have joined in ICO campaign in 2016, the public sale was only 1 hour and you could gbuy coins if you were lucky and after couple of hours end of the ICO, you could sell your coins with 3 times profits! But unfortunately the ICO business has died in 2018, more then %80 ICO projects turned scam some how, nearly everyone lost their money (only spammers won!) and everyone lost thier trust to an ICO's and unfortunately fo cryptocurrenc as well.. After that we are having STO and IEO, those system seems good, but i feel that at the end it will turn something bad.. I also loose my trust after joining many bounty campaign and investing to some ICO's.. I have joined more than 100 bount project and only 5-6 of them paid me with the live coins.. I have hundreds of shitcoin in my wallet.. Also my invested ICO projects made me lost in 2018..

So all of us want to hear something good and trustful in this crypto world but STO or IEO's not enough for us. We need full security and trust.

I wish that your ideas would help all of us soon..

I am a Mechanical Engineer with expertise in power and Mecha-tronics. An Entrepreneur

The main reason i think why Icos are having a hard time getting incestors include.

1. Too much of fraud now in the ecosystem so investor are afraid of being duped, so if means can be found to tackle this then more investors might be willing to engaged there.

2. Icos take too much time these days to get started and working i.e lots of time until they are trade-able, with these persons stick more to trading other than investing in icos.

3. Consistency: Many icos are very inconsistent in their pursuit some end up changing their white paper two to three times before they get started these practise always discourage investors.

From the listed above if means can be employ to safe guard these then i think more investors will be readily available.

It's true nowadays ICO, STO are at difficulty of finding investors to invest particularly because they see not a real big potential in the upcoming projects. But mostly are based on the BTC bull that takes over the cryptoline. All attention and investment are pointing at the coins not the token for the moment.

Remember the time when the bear hit the coins, investor attention are shifted to token to gather profit. These situations will remains the same through out. And too bad at his moments there aren't any project that really live up to the slogan and themes that firstly taken to task, most of it swayed from its original purpose of the agenda where the project were meant.

Most of the project are at the losing ends and needs more and more funding but still not achieving what was planned for. This the main reason why it's hard to get funding nowadays.

There are a number of options available to crypto projects including ICO, IEO, STO

IEO is best option because of..

All exchanges are KYC/AML verified so ensures very high security to the investors.Investors directly take part in the exchange, unlike ICO and STO.Due to the regulatory levels, the platform is trustworthy and protects the investors of fraudulent activities.Participants do not transfer their contributions to a smart contract but directly to their account

ICO is horrible..

Because they are largely unregulated, ICOs have become a hub of frauds and scam artists, looking to prey on investors who are overzealous and underinformed.

Early investors in an ICO operation are usually motivated to buy cryptocoins in the hope that the plan becomes successful after it launches. If this comes to pass, the value of the tokens they purchased during the ICO will climb above the price set during the ICO itself, and they will achieve overall gains. This is the primary benefit of an ICO: the potential for amazing returns

There are too many projects but the most thing in any project is safety, reliability and to sure that they are real. and you'll make profit with them

I think there are too many projects and that many have been badly hurt because they are not solid. There are also some that look more like a pyramid sale than a solid project. On the other hand it has been seen that the great projects are the thermometer of the entire ecosystem and that they are growing steadily and I believe that many investors have gone there to investitr for safety and profitability. I would define it in more solid projects and less speculation

I'm very sure this will be possible in future. Currently a lot of work is being done to give bitcoin the "swap" feature. This will enable one to convert bitcoin to any currency without using an exchange. I don't know much about it but you should read on it.

There are a number of options available to crypto projects including ICO, IEO, STO, etc. Personally, I would love to see a private sale in walllets. Example, crowdholding partners with Coinomi and the sale is done in the wallet, probably exchanging ETH for the token or BTC. I think it creates some level of convenience.

ICO is in the difficult moment niw because there are many fake icos that destroy the mechanism. However, legit ico from real team with real project still have chance to raise fund via icos. The time of ico may longer than in 2017 but icos will be succesful when it is supported with strong financial institution to run the ico program. to market the investment platform need fund and some countries limit with minimum fund for the organization.

ICOs were good and still are. The idea of getting the share of the company/projects without hassels was great till it lasted. Now more and more companies are asking for KYC/AML which is good but kills the whole idea.
IEOs are kinda worst, it gives power to centralized exchanges and again kills the whole idea.

I'm not in favor of VC because of carried interest. There should be flat rate pa.

There are certain new projects, offering shares of the company in token form. But you still need to provide KYC documents.

I like the idea of Angle investors, just because it is easier to handle and more simple to get. And once you take off from the ground you can look for some Equity investors. Or turn your angle investors into equity partners.

Don't listen to me because of who I am, I'm nobody like everone else.

I like ICOs myself, its just that there aren't so many good ones anymore. Perhaps its just that many of the good blockchain related ideas have a lot of projects working on them already. We need some of those to actually become successful projects and for the entire ecology to move on and develop further before new opportunities for good projects start to arise. It is also that the ICO craze gave them such a bad name that for now quality projects are put off from being associated with them. Maybe this will change in the future and we will get some good ICOs / ITOs (Initial token offerings) again. I hope so.

I don't see much benefit in STOs compared to actual traditional securities. One of the big appeals of ICOs was that they weren't securities, didn't have strict requirements for who was allowed to participate, rules around when you can sell, or hassles with KYC and so on. Take that away and whats the point really?

IEOs I'm not sure. I don't trust them because I think it gives the exchanges too much power and leaves to much room for conflicts of interest and projects being chosen and becoming the successful ones for all the wrong reasons. But having said that I think they will continue to be popular even if I don't like them myself.

I think the offerings will go where the money is and some crypto exchanges will offer stocks and some brokerages will offer crypto including the Ico's ..  the future will probably look somewhat like the past.

When I look at them I think of them as securities, commodities and currencies.  That the way they will be offered evolvez over time doesn't make that much difference.
