The tipping function in Brave

Rewards

No YUP/tokens awarded

Hi guys,

Let's explore and introduce the tipping function today.

As you might know, there is an auto-contribution in Brave that you can set-up to happen every month. The ammount of rewards is in your control. This rewards the websites that you visit based on how much time you spent on it.

You can also see a checkmark next to the website or Publishers that are already verified.

You can also delete the sites from the above list or while you're browsing a particular website you can choose what you don't want to contribute to.

Tipping

It is also possible to send manual tips. This can be useful if you think a certain Publishers deserves a higher reward. This can be done as a one-time payment as well as a regular contribution. The tips are sent automatically to the verified Publishers.

Questions

  1. What do you think of the automatic contribution? How would you improve it?
  2. What do you think of the tipping functionality?
  3. What would make you use these features?
  4. Any other thoughts?

Exchange BATs for Yups

As we'd also love you to test out the tipping functionality we have a sweet deal for you.

If you Tip Crowdholding with BAT we tip you (send you) Yups. And to make the deal sweeter, we send you more Yups then the value of the BAT.

Here's the exchange rate we'll use:

  • 1 BAT (around 0.35) USD == 500 Yups (around 0.7 USD) Value will be adjusted to this ratio in case values increase higher/lower*

In order to prove that you did it, please fill in the survey below put the screenshot that proves you tipped us.

Screenshot rules

  • Must contain the full screen
  • Must show your reward panel (brave://rewards/)
  • Must show that you tipped us and your Supported sites
  • It should show your wallet balance (displayed when you click on the BAT logo in the toolbar)

For other active tasks, check out our Brave addons and Grammarly task.

any coin, is a good coin..

1. Quite practical and easy to use, (maybe a grey out option is missing, to see which are currently not in use) 2. tipping is nice to have and users can show their support 3. if id get something in return, benefits, i would start to use it.. 4. maybe some little games, to keep me entertained? thats my opinon,

I think for people who want to use the automatic contribution function it's quite straightforward and easy to use, as far as I can see. I personally don't use it, I prefer to tip individually. Generally, I like the tipping function and it works perfectly although I'm a bit reluctant to tip big commercial crypto sites. I would definitely support more crypto community sites. So far the wallet is only unidirectional but I hope that it will soon be possible to withdraw BAT. It's nice to get tipped but isn't of much use if doesn't pay off in money :).

So as touching automatic contributions, itbis a welcome development, to encouraged user of the browser after all some browser has been playing upon intelligent of users and make a load of cash against users wish without any incentives. It can be improved if the both installed app and web is considered for the benefits. Another thing is that making the tips a reasonable value.

Tipping functionally is a good idea too, though I have not used or tried it.

Yes, incentives will make me to use this features, one should be able to work on internet any day any time and get something for it's time.

More creativities  add with incentives will drive people to brave in a short time, nobody want to watch a free video or advert and use a browser hidden with adds without been compensated.

I am excited about the future of all crypto currency.

1. What do i think of the automatic tip function and how would i improve it.

I won't use automatic tip function. I am capable of tipping on my own. I would add a negitive tip function. If that persons content is awful. You should be able to take a tipp for wasting your time.

2. What do i think of the tipping functionality?

It works. Until everyone is expected to tip or expects a tip.

3. How would you make use of these features?

I would go to everyones browser and set to automatic tip my favorite content creator (me) and buy all the golden wanka bars in the world and retire early.

4. Any other thoughts?

Yup! Most of the ads i see are kinda shady and made me turn off ad function. The browser works flawlessy and i like it compared to reg chrome.

1> what do you think of the automatic contribution? how would you improve it?

I think that the auto payment system is a bit imperfect as it assumes that because I am visiting a site that it is one of my favourite contributors. Often when I visit sites I visit because I have to for one reason or another - let's say I use a bitcoin faucet site every day, those sites make money by forcing advertisement in return I click and collect a tiny amount of bitcoin, often the auto tip, if left unchecked would tip out a greater amount than they pay out to me and so I would never choose to auto tip a site like this. I think the auto tip site would be better created if it asked for a few moments of your time each month to fill out which your most favourite sites were - perhaps last month you really liked a bunch of movies and wanted to read about them but this month you heard about a great new investment site you'd like to have a look at. It would be great to switch it up month by month and select a few preferred sites. The auto tip function selects so many sites and without any prejudice and really the whole act of selecting favourite contributors is an act of prejudice towards your favourite things.

2> What do you think of the tipping functionality?

My main issue with the brave tipping functionality is that it doesn't allow for the fact that people are generally, basically quite mercenary in nature and especially in the cryptocurrency sphere. earning a bunch of BAT over a long period of time and then passing that all over to someone else who probably already gains quite a lot of profit for advertising or through your use of their site as a consumer seems, to me at least, no to take that into consideration. One example of how they have dealt with this well in a tipping environment is the publish0x website which allows a percentage of the tip to go to the author and a percentage to go to the tipper. So let's say you have your rewards called something different, for argument's sake lets call it the BAX as you browse adverts you accumulate BAX but BAX is made up of a fixed percentage of content creator BAT and tipper/user BAT. So every time you tip someone a BAX the tip is split into let's say 80% for the content creator and 20% for the tipper which they both receive as your BAT and are free to Hold or sell as they see fit.

3> How would you make use of these features?

I'd really like to see some great community-based sites get involved with BAT, sites like crowdholding which aren't these huge, faceless multinationals or spammy Bitcoin type sites as I'm really reluctant to tip them. I'd much rather tip a site that I actively enjoy using and would consider as needing more support than some of the commercial ones out there.

4> Any other thoughts?

pretty much covered them all above I think. Brave is a really good browser, I've really struggled with the auto password transfer function from Chrome though so I haven't adopted it 100% but I definitely try to use it often.

I am using Brave browser from last 3 months, its good because brave browser have many ads-on installed in it like adblocker, web mining blocker,.

I am using Brave browser in last 2 months and i am quite happy with that. Because of my works i need to use multiple browsers and Brave became my second best browser so far after Chrome. It is fast and very easy to use.

The automatic contribution idea is cool also the tipping as well, you would support your favourite website with this way, so we are not only satisfied ones, the companies and product would too. But in some countries you wouldn't use the Brave's all properties. (For example in Turkey) I wonder when it will be open in here too..

I think the automatic contribution is a great concept. It enables people to constantly support websites they want to, without thinking about it. It would be better if you could fund your wallet with bat from outside sources, like coins purchased on exchanges. Tipping functionality is super easy to use. I’ve personally used it a few times. I use the Manuel tipping. There’s some content writers that I like, and I support them with tokens. It’s the right thing to do. It might be interesting for non crypto users if you could tip fiat too. Not sure if that’s easy to integrate, but it could be a bridge for more users to get comfortable with tokens.

Great idea but there needs to be more verified sites. 3-Really help small creators who are struggling financially, tips can be a relief to strengthen your project. 4- When there is no balance in our wallet, the contribution is no longer realized, this is very annoying, there should be a special balance only for automatic contributions

Donated some BAT to Crowdholding - done!

As far as Brave tipping goes. So far, I haven't signed up for the automatic tipping functionality. There are 2 main reasons for this:

  1. I do most of my personal web browsing on my phone, and Brave ads hasn't been released to android yet, therefore I'm not earning a lot of BAT, only when I use the browser on my computer, which is rare.
  2. (which answers how I would improve the auto tipping) - It appears that the automatic tipping is set to tip a specific amount each month. I'm not earning a specific amount of BAT every month, and have only earned one month's worth so far. I would prefer a different approach. I would like the option to allocate an automatic tip to content producers I choose, and in percentage amounts of my monthly earnings set by me. I'd also like to have the ability to not allocate 100% of my earned BAT to automatic tips for purposes of manual tips and hodling.

Otherwise, I like the tipping functionality. I choose to use it when I've seen websites that already accept tips. It's kind of a hassle to click the Brave icon every time I come across a website and want to tip. I don't want to tip websites that don't accept them because I don't want it to go to waste. I think it would be an added bonus to see if a site accepts Brave tipe automatically (without clicking the Brave Logo or have a list of the websites that accept tips.

Maybe others have experience with getting content publishers on board by tipping them. What have other's tried if a publisher doesn't accept tips, is there any way to tell if you get them to sign up? Maybe have an affiiliate page that shows how many people you've gotten to register with your tips.

One other thing I'd like, it'd be really cool to tip other Crowdholders with BAT, (or YUP for that matter, but that's a tangential comment). Is there a way to register to register my CH account as a Brave tip acceptor?

I'm a big fan of Brave and how they value content creators. I think having multiple options such as paying by attention as well as tipping is well thought-out. I'm glad I can directly reward the people that I follow like this. Regarding the auto-contribution in specific, it feels hard to follow the total contributions I've given. I suppose there is a public ledger somewhere that could be queried, but it should be easier to see all that info from the popup window. The tipping function is also a great idea, but should have an easier way of tracking everything that I've tipped so far. I'm also curious whether a creator can know who tips them. It could be nice to include a note with your tip, because that can be more personal. I mostly use these features on Youtube such as tutorial channels and music channels. Sometimes I go to a site, for example the Uphold site, that is considered to be a Brave Verified Creator, but I don't feel that is in the spirit of Brave. In fact, the requirement of creators to go through Uphold is my biggest issue with the BAT ecosystem, and calling them a verified publisher that can take leech off BAT meant for creators makes the whole project look bad, IMO. Other than that, I'm liking Brave a lot.

Its good that you set up both automatic and manual contribution options. In my opinion, I think a lot of people will go with the manual option because not many people have a lot of BAT tokens. And even if they do, they would  like to give tips based on amounts they choose at a certain period of time. The automatic contribution? I think I will have to await the opinions of my fellow Crowdholders in order to see how it can be improved, especially those with BAT because I don't own any BAT tokens

The tipping functionality is great. How many people don't like to be tipped? Few! Then again, tipping is a further indication of good work done. The higher the number of tips a person gets the higher the indication of quality work done. Even though this isn't true in all cases, it holds true most of the time. So yep! The tipping function alright.

What would make me use these features? Well, some creators and websites put out very great work and info and deserve to be rewarded - not all the time but most of the time. If I owned such a website or I was one of those creators, I will definitely appreciate those tips. So I will use these features for that purpose.

I just want to know other ways through which we can earn BAT via the BAT browser aside using it. Then again, you could have gotten into a short description on how to tip Crowdholding with BAT (I know this might sound absurd but non-BAT owners like me need it so that next time we do it easily). I didn't take part in the latter task because of this, even though I would have loved to.

I actually use Brave since some months now, and I like the concept a lot. The browser is a lot faster as a regular (Chrome) Browser and if you browse on also on dubious sites (like faucet sites) Brave is a lot safer, it doesnt open automatically any pop-up or script.

Ok now to the tipping function/publisher rewards. I like the concept, and it is a good approach to solve the monetizing problem on the web, meaning lots of content creators have difficulties to make a living. What is really great about the tipping function, that content creators don't rely anymore on (shady) corporations like google, facebook, youtube, amazon etc. Also the BAT token is decentralized.

What I would not be so confortable with if I was a content creator, is that in order to spend BAT, I will have them to trade on an exchange. As a user, who want to earn some BAT, simply while surfing the web, I think it is not worthwhile. At least not for me. I use the Brave built-in Ad-blocker and 3th-party blocker and U-block origin as well, so I never are going to earn any BAT while surfing. Am I right? Anyways I am not willing to get bombarded by ads and threatened by malware just to get some BAT worth fractions of a Dollar. And at the moment I don't see any sense personally, to buy BAT to tip someone, sorry. I would tip some airdropped token instead, if that would be possible.

OK, so this task has finlly brought me to take a proper look at Brave - something I've been meaning to do for ages, but have put off due to being a creature of habit in the sense that despite not having much love for Google, I do kind of have Chrome all set up as I like it.  I had a fleeting look at Brave before, but now I intend to give it a proper trial.

Being new to Brave I only had the initial reward to tip, but I believe I have completed the task...  :)

I'll assume ther Survey is where I answer further questions about the process, so will proceed there.  My only other comment being that it was not instantly obvious to me how to send the manual tip.  I had to Google that process.  But other than that, it looks interesting.  I should have got on this a while back...

I want to tip Crowdholding with BAT, but I don't have enough funds to do it. As soon I have I want to tip Crowdholding with BATs.

Automatic contributions sound great because when we block ads, we are not helping the sites that we use most.

It's an excellent idea to solve de financial problem that the website usually has to keep its structure working well.

We BAT became more used I will use it, right now it's "complicated" to exchange coins to have funds, we should have easier ways to exchange our coins.

  • What do you think of the automatic contribution? How would you improve it?

Well as now I am using brave as my default browser but still, there are many questions that I want as an answer like,

  1. Why should I contribute to the site? As they are already loaded with a lot of ads and filling their sites with as many ads as they can.

I think auto-contribution make no sense. The site is earning because we are watching their ads so it should not be the user who contributes but the sites should contribution to there users as a gesture of thanks.

I will be happy to send the contribution to a creator or a writer but even for that, I will use the manual system which I will do whenever I like their contents so I support the contribution to an individual rather than to a site.

How would you improve it?

If you are still going with the same ideology then I think there need to be a detailed summary of the site which I want to review it first and then submit a contribution. And even if it is auto it should always ask me by sending me a mail which I have to respond by clicking on a link in the mail which will be good practice and also it will be more secure.

  • What do you think of the tipping functionality?

If tipping to a creator then it is a good function, otherwise, the site should tip to there user on the basis of input of the user to the site.

Let say I visit a site, and then I recommend the site to my friend so the site should track it and should tip to the user as a thanks gesture.

  • What would make you use these features?

As I haven't seen any Ads on the Brave browser, so I haven't used this features so far as I will first see how much I can earn by watching each ad and on the basis of that I will then consider this feature.

  • Any other thoughts?

I think If brave give a reward to every site that enters through there ads system will really boost the Brave as a browser as well as give a new shape to the ads system as well.

I already tipped you guys the last month before this task came around, so don't have a screenshot of the previous donation. There should be a tab in the browser to allow us to track previous months donations. I've sent in a screenshot of my current balance, if that helps in anyway.

I find the tipping function very good, but for now i have not really being engaged with my brave browser a lot, i will try to use it a lot and try to get to know all the functionality. The tipping function is good since it can be made manual or automatic so with this it will be left to the choice of the user to choose what to do with the reward that was given to him. So i think that since it is left in the hands of the user to decide then it is good.

Firstly I'm not excited about Brave browser at all. I did downloaded but just that. I find it hard to create a wallet with he browser. The tipping is actually more to Brave themself to tip is for using it not the other way, in my opinion.

Anyhow Brave are fast in gaining popularity but to dethroned the likes of Google is relatively long way to go. I mean Brave are still the NKOTB. So forget it to duel with Google. It takes years to get established. Not a few month work.

1. What do you think of the automatic contribution? How would you improve it? I think it should be more of how a certain website was able to satisfy what you were looking for when you clicked on the site in the first place, but it is also possible that the time you spent on a website is a good indication of interest on a site. 2. What do you think of the tipping functionality? It's a good idea. It's a way of recognizing good work. 3. What would make you use these features? 1. What do you think of the automatic contribution? How would you improve it? I think it's a good idea but I think it can be improved. I think it would be more fair to contribute by web and not automatically. that there was a button or something that would allow
  2. What do you think of the tipping functionality? I think it's very good. I think it allows you to reward what you really want to be. Maybe it could be done via bookmarks or history every x time depending on the websites you visit
  3. What would make you use these features?
I sincerely have it disabled. It seems that there is no possibility to see ads and earn BATS in my region. I mean I can not earn Bats to see surf and see publicity but if that debt is generated by doing it ... I think something is missing from the triangle of value that you have publicized
  4. What I have said before or all or nothing. The service should be supported in every way its promise of value is that everyone wins Bats (users, carriers and advertisers) and it is not fair that the main link in the chain is disabled and the others are not.
Fully willing to use it when it is really possible. I had it enabled and now I have a debt with the browser.

I have been experimenting with the Brave browser for some time and I like the ideas behind the no-tracking browser in general (Having been using Duckduckgo for years). Regarding the tipping: - It would be helpful to synchronize the Wallet among devices (even two different Desktops, but mainly Cell Phone once the Version rolls out) - I regard the tipping function as far more important (for a small user like me) than the basic Publisher/Marketing/User Model (which is of course also great, if it's going to pick up fast). However, tipping really gives the option to reward some single article or author. There are options nowadays, which require PayPal or other third party provider with login necessary (+ two factor authentications). By delegating this to a secured, distributed and transparent data structure, a whole new world opens. I am going to keep using the browser on all my devices (even switching to Qwant) and use the BAT Wallet to pay authors/newspapers on demand. Keep going!

Very good points, this does seem like a great alternative to things like Patreon or TipMe, specifically for users.
And having the wallets synced is a good idea.
I think you should be able to achieve that even now if you use the same seed of the wallet on all of your devices. Sure, annoying to set up, but once you have it, you got it all.

2. Tipping feature it’s great when you would like to to reward a particular ads or article writer

3. Have them available on app

I have been using this feature for months.

I do like the autocontribution feature but what I do not like is that even though I delete the sites that I do not want to tip shows up again next month.

For example, I use brave browser to access my exchanges, that's why I go to bitfinex and idex. I also check CMC, ethplorer on brave too, sometimes watch youtube.

Every month I delete bitfinex and youtube from the contribution and the next month they come back.

I only tip CMC and ethplorer, and only want to tip them everymonth. So I started to manually check my tippings. I do not want bitfinex and youtube to earn more.

And brave keeps telling me to backup my key everyday even I already did thousands of times. Please dear brave browser fix this issue :)

Did you know that if you reward the channels on Youtube it's them receiving the rewards and not youtube.com? Only if it's listed as youtube.com it's for Google.

Regarding the feature of auto-removing websites for tipping "forever", yeah, that;d be really nice actually.

And with Gramarly, yeah, that might be an issue, though it shouldn't be. Is it on the phone or desktop?

  2. Tipping functionality is great but most of the sites are not verified yet, and what I heard it is because of uphold connection. It's having really high fees.
  3. I would to tip an article I like or web-design or to support my favorite comic artist.
  4. It wont be useful unless it is widely adopted, to do that we need easier solution for withdrawing the tokens for publishers, and more convinient way to fund the wallets for tippers.

1) For me its not a good idea to auto contribution, I prefer to tip by myself if i see goot things.

2) Its working very well but i see most of the users are not verified so mt tip will not received by them. We need more mass adoption and more verified users.

3) I would generallt tip my loved singers, writers, and well designed web portals.

4) I send my first tips to crowdholding team for their hard work and well designed portal :)

I don't use automatic contribution but it's nice for those who have a dedicated site they want to tip. If there isn't a reminder email that it's coming up, that might be nice. I think the tipping functionality is very easy to use. I need to earn more BAT in order to use tipping. When I'm able to earn by viewing ads on my Android phone that will be great! Last thought, before the tip transaction is complete, it should ask if I'm sure I want that amount to go to that site. Also kudo's to ch for giving us a way to earn more YUP. I want to get into that top tier!
