A frightening CO2 balance

As the crypto network grows, so too does the concern around its environmental impact, and with good reason. According to a study from May 2018, the global energy demand for Bitcoin mining alone amounts to at least 2.55 gigawatts. The real problem, however, is how this electricity is generated: in fact, most of it comes from fossil fuels ūüõĘ and Chinese coal-fired power plants, resulting in extremely high CO2 emissions.

Improving the Grid

That being said, crypto mining environmental impact is 100% attached to the “green performance” (or lack thereof) of the global energy grid. That means improvements in solar, hydro, wind and other renewable power technologies ‚ôĽ have the potential to make mining much more climate-friendly in the future.

Staking your Coins

A different approach to the problem is using Proof-of-Stake types of network. A Proof-of-Stake consensus algorithm provides for mining opportunities in proportion to the amounts of tokens held by a user on the network ūüíį, therefore providing an environmentally-conscious alternative to the Proof-of-Work methodology popularized by Bitcoin.

Going One Step Further

On the other hand, azultec already starts with the crypto-miners itself: thanks to various technologies developed in-house, our Cube can convert the electricity required for operation and thus recover up to 72% of it. This energy can then, for example, be fed into the in-house heating system or stored. This makes the Cube probably the most efficient mining computer ‚ö°.

In the recent past the mininign has overloaded electricity consumption 'and it has not been too much devoted to environmental respect! today, given the needs of the crypto market, all companies are adopting solutions that respect the environment and consumption.

I am confident in Azultec and its projects! I hope he can increase the quality and reduce the costs of mining.

Very interesting and creative project that will achieve great victories soon! The project constantly attracts the growing interest of both the global audience and investors...

Minning is the way of the crypto community, this is hoy you me and wveryonr else grt thier coin. I know that it involved the use of lots electricty but i think it's worth it.

Mining consume electriciy the more miner and power use by the heavy machine the more electricity consumes, it may affect the power or electricity supply in the community and may cause a power or electricity shortage like in our country.
great idea to solution the power usage of. Miner because of its heat converation technology..

I'm well aware of the downsides of mining but wasn't quite aware of it's overall effect it's having on our environment. With so many people now wanting to invest into crypto mining it's bound to have a detrimental effect.

The solution I preferred the most was the Cube, it sounded the safest and most effective strategy in my opinion.

Mining consume electriciy the more miner and power use by the heavy machine the more electricity consumes, it may affect the power or electricity supply in the community and may cause a power or electricity shortage like in our country. This last week i heard in news the some city and are have experience a power shortage and black out..

I think the Azultec Cube was a great idea to solution the power usage of. Miner because of its heat converation technology..

What is your take on the environmental effects of crypto mining?
mining is truly not good for the environment as it needs more power which means more heavy equipment with more energy consumption. The required power for mining is increasing day by day and making it more expensive and hard to do which is not good for the miner as well as for the environment as well.

Which solution do you think is the most likely to work?
Proof of stake seems to be a good option instead of mining.
The price of azultec is so high that need more work so to lower the price to be used in every house not just for crypto but for everyone.

Yes of course the more crypto is being accepted the more impact it will be having on environment, mining of coins especially bitcoin is extremely expensive with power consumption having a better, simple and environmentally friendly computer like cube is a welcome opportunity for both big and small miners and even newbies, I will like to drum support for such improvement and encourage everyone to support this initiative especially when effect of global warming is being felt all over the world, if co2 generated cars is being discouraged and Tesla is speedily working on environmental friendly cars,Azultec also is to be given kudos for Cube.
Moreso, proof of stake will be able to get nod with this technology that encouraged environment greener.

ūüĎČ What is your take on the environmental effects of crypto mining?
Answer: Crypto mining si more efficient and eco friendly than a usual mining. It's more convenient and useful nowadays.

ūüĎČ ‚Äč Which solution do you think is the most likely to work?
Answer: For me more projects and staking

There always been arguments contradicting the statistics! Manipulate facts in the way that benefits them and in this case I see no exception. The best solution most likely to work is a mining that uses LESS energy.. I think Proof of stake may be the solution, most of the projects are moving towards PoS or MN.
Kudos alzutec, however it'd be better if you expand your education further, to let this technology easily understood by the greater crypto community. The idea is unique and great idea, but the price is high, which means that only people with resources will be able to buy and use it and it wont bring it to masses, unless it changes in future.

I think the environmental effects if crypto mining where there seem to be two opposed scenarios: one where the acceleration of value production catalyzes a global exhaustion of energetic matrics, and another where this seems acceleration results in achieving energy sustaunability goals. In any case, it is necessary to be skeptical about any statement that advocates and or promotes crypto mining without taking into account the time of transition to a model that is fully fueled by clean energy, or that simply marginalize a cultural phenomenon from which a new social and economic order can emerge.

Cryptocurrencies have come a long way from their relatively obscure origins. While the mainstream financial world may have once disdained digital currencies as tools for criminals, terrorists or rebellious individuals frustrated with traditional money, in the past months the industry has made significant progress in establishing itself as a legitimate and (potentially) world-changing space.

Digital currencies like bitcoin (BTC) and ether have paved the way, growing massively in unit value, user bases and daily transaction volumes‚ÄĒand dozens of new cryptocurrencies have followed in their path. That being said, cryptocurrency is not without its detractors. Many skeptics continue to argue that the space is a speculative bubble ready to burst. Another type of criticism that has not gotten as much notice, however, is one having to do with the environmental impact of digital currencies. In this article, we‚Äôll explore potential impacts that digital currencies could have on the environment and present some different viewpoints about how this may play out into the future.

I think that the environmental effects of crypto mining may hinder widespread adoption, as our world cares more and more about environmental impacts and the effect of industry. We need money, but crypto seems worse compared to fiat when it pollutes more to be made and used.
I think Proof of stake may be the solution, so that one doesn't use so much energy for transaction. Ethereum is very widely used, and may change POS, and so could replace Bitcoin as the major cryptocurrency.

Not sure if I believe everything about how damaging crypto mining is to the environment. I still think it is better than many other types of mining. I would love to try the cube, I love renewable energy based just on the fact that you don't have to rely on energy companies as much. If the cube works I would be super interested in it. I think POS is good but also CPU mining and less intensive algos is the way to go from here, as well as renewable energy.

As a resident that lives in a tropical country (the Philippines) I would support this and possibly give CUBE a try since my goal is to mine different cryptocurrencies that my current machine can't provide.

I just hope that there would be more variations of machines to choose from with at least lesser price of below $5000. Also Curious with azultec RenderMaster 500's price.

Joining first on Cloud computing will be my first move. Would definitely register for your newsletter!

I think that the majority of new capacity in mining apart from home installations is pretty much going to be renewable energy due to cheaper prices in the energy costs, especially when building new power plants.

The most likely to work solutions are in my opinion like the one with wind power in Morocco.

Throughout the existence of cryptocurrency, this issue has been raised many times, there have even been attempts by state structures to manipulate these facts, but there have always been arguments contradicting all these statisticians! Everything and always manipulate facts in the way that benefits them and in this case I see no exception. On the one hand, the use of alternative sources is a good idea, and on the other hand, the production of the same alternative sources is also associated with the facts of pollution of the planet’s ecosystem, and that’s a vicious circle!
I think the most likely will be a decision to reduce energy consumption by miners, and the use of various sources will still remain a place for disputes, at least in the foreseeable future.

What is your take on the environmental effects of crypto mining? is that a mining rig which is also less consuming energy is what it takes good for envirolment,. For example, energy-efficient lighting demands less electricity, which reduces polluting power plant emissions. Some materials used in lamps, such as mercury, are toxic to the environment and must be handled carefully. Light shining into the sky causes light pollution.
Which solution do you think is the most likely to work?the best solution is a mining that uses renewable energy.

The best solution would be the photovoltaic and wind energy panels, already used in different projects.

Your solution could be a nice benefit for the future of crypto.
Where mining rigs fit into all this, I really don't think I have the expertise to answer. Maybe I don't understand the IT and CS side of things well enough, but the main question that I haven't found an answer for is what social benefit does mining provide? Can someone point me towards something I can read on that? But ,its over all good

Electrical use is probably the most damaging issue with crypto mining. The only solution I can think is green means of producing electricity. Solar power os one and wind turbine is another. Also water generators. Any of these would produce less waste and be green to the environment.

Stacking good for every invested ,think the solution is one that we, as an amalgamation of societies, cannot yet comprehend. Most analysis of the problem that I've come across is focused on the environmental impact of electricity required to run rigs. Well, what kind of power is used to produce the various hardware and components in the first place, starting with the mining of silicone and whatever plastic is used? How much transportation is involved in the supply chain? What kind of transportation is used? What do we even really know or understand about EMR pollution and it's impacts on the environment and biological life So an all encompassing environmental, and ideally societal, solution would involve cost/benefit analyses on a grand scale. From an optimistic standpoint, the ultimate solution will be the coins that limit their environmental impact and optimize the social impact (including to reducing income inequality and making more resources available to more people) will be the ones that grow in value and are adopted on a broad scale.

We all know that it has a high cost of electricity, as far as my country is concerned. I had tried for 2 months but the gain of the crypto did not cover the costs. The more you go on in the calculation, the more energy you need, and of course more pollution.

The best solution would be the photovoltaic and wind energy panels, already used in different projects.

Your solution could be a nice benefit for the future of crypto.

The Bitcoin can't exist without computers right? And which can't exist without an power (electricity). And the number of computers and the energy needed to power them is rising. The growing value of bitcoin is directly tied to the amount of energy it uses. The miners unlock bitcoins by solving complex, unique puzzles. As the value of bitcoin goes up, the puzzles become increasingly more difficult, and it requires more computer power to solve them. Some estimates say more than 60 percent of the processing power used to mine bitcoin is in China, where it relies heavily on the burning of coal. Coal and other fossil fuels are also the largest generator of electricity for the rest of the world, and coal is a significant contributor to manmade climate change. Burning it produces carbon dioxide, a gas that is a primary contributor to global warming. This reliance on fossil fuels has given rise to speculation that bitcoin's energy consumption will continue to rise as it grows in popularity. So we can say that this is going to be something ugly soon and needs quick cures. I really can't say anything because this is a big matter and the people should pay attention who is in charge and they need to respond right now!

First of all wee need to ask ourselves that the Bitcoin could harm the world or go further can destroy the world?? There are too many unanswered question about it right now. The main problem of a miner is the energy cost and all miners are trying to get cheap electricity for more profit. This would be very dangerous at the first. Think about it, there are bitcoins and you try to collect them with spending energy.. If you look at the big picture it would be terrifying.. It makes the people act in bad ways..

If the goverments takes tax from miners would it be help to acting carefully and respectfully to the enviroment? This is only cure that i can think about it right now. When i think deeply about this matter i feel really strange too.. I hope there would be solution for this soon..

Crypto mining uses more energy than physical mining. But I think that it is not going to destroy the environment, despite warnings; mining companies will need to find a renewable way to mine cryptos.
Improving efficiency in the cryptocurrency world is already a concern for many of the top minds in the industry.
I believe in the next five years you'll have the option to buy something on Amazon or a coffee at your local shop with cryptocurrency. But what I want is for people to understand all the costs of the new technology. We can embrace new technology but we should have a good understanding of what exactly we are embracing.

Azultec project in reducing CO2 emissions in crypto mining are certainly very much welcome and intact its been long waiting for a technology like this to be created.
Bitcoin mining certainly cost a lot of power electricity and its also goes same to other crypto. Not only that the CO2 emissions but also the radiation indicator also very high and in long term it also affects us.
The green project if well accepted will reduced half the problem we faces today. It will be a huge task to have all the mining to cooperate with what Azultec were to offer

My take, based on the impressions from the media, what I've read, and azultec's whitepaper is that it is currently very detrimental to the environment. The problem is multifaceted - environmental costs of production of hardware rigs, production of power supply, generation of heat, electromagnetic radiation pollution.

I think the solution is one that we, as an amalgamation of societies, cannot yet comprehend. What do we even really know or understand about EMR pollution and it's impacts on the environment and biological life (including us)?

So an all encompassing environmental, and ideally societal, solution would involve cost/benefit analyses on a grand scale. From an optimistic standpoint, the ultimate solution will be the coins that limit their environmental impact and optimize the social impact (including to reducing income inequality and making more resources available to more people) will be the ones that grow in value and are adopted on a broad scale.

I guess I would add to this that an automatic allocation to carbon offsets for each token mined could be a good start. Maybe someone is already doing something like this?

What is your take on the environmental effects of crypto mining is The Impact of Cryptocurrency-Mining Malware because Cryptocurrency mining is a computationally intensive task that requires significant resources from dedicated processors, graphics cards, and other hardware. While mining does generate money, there are many caveats. The profit is relative to a miner’s investment on the hardware, not to mention the electricity costs to power them

The Cube can convert and recover energy efficiently thereby reducing energy loss. The most important factor in my opinion is how the power is generated in the first place. That determines the environmental impact. Thankfully the age of fossil fuels is coming to an end. The world is moving slowly but surely embracing green and sustainable energy. The Cube is still a step towards the right direction of sustainable energy by promoting efficient power recovery. It's seems like the best that can be done at this point in time.

The next factor is the cost benefit to a miner and how long it would take to recover this investment.

Everything green is the goal! Being realistic, it is not possible yet to achieve that goal.
In my opinion crypto will not only get rid of centralized systems but it might just change the 80/20 scenario. Also printing the bank notes also consumes resources like electricity, paper, etc etc.
Coming to the first question, the effect of crypto mining are greater than reward but there is a shift in the norm, most of the projects are moving towards PoS or MN.
The idea behind the project is unique and great idea, but why would you need to buy a cube to do that, why can't simply do it with your own computer or pi?
The price of the cube is high, which means that only people with resources will be able to buy and use it and it wont bring it to masses, unless it changes in future.

At the inception of Bitcoin the father of cryptocurrencies mining has been something the that the founder of Bitcoin Satoshi Nakamoto did not even think of otherwise he would have proposed better way of mining crypto, now that we have accepted Bitcoin and other Cryptos what we need to do is to re-access the impact on environment and make solution, in order to reduce the environmental effects what I think we have to do is to seek for probably water cooling system of mining equipment and adoption of greener environment for whoever want to set up mining farm. Also rewritten of algorithm to reduce power consumption to the neares minimum.

The most solution is to adopt proof of stake and or mobile mining.

I think need roadmap a long and more great is any tasks

In my opinion it is a waste, because we as miners need a lot of capital for a high value,
the solution is to use a natural place such as using solar energy.

1. In a nutshell I think it's a very groundbreaking project. Global environmental problems, CO2 emissions, the limits of energy sources available from the earth, they are often the debate of the world.
However, I think that it is the action which considered the interest first except it about mining of CRYPTO, so the consideration for it will be a problem of each company, group, and individual who is doing mining.
So, this project will be semi-forced to be effective when the global environmental problems are presented to the world from the world?
CRYPTO is a field that is developing from now on, and I think that in the near future we will look at the name of AZULTEC better.
2. When it comes to replacing the current oil and coal thermal fuels and electricity, is it not biofuels as well? It's in solar and wind power
My personal thought is that it is too far away and it takes too much investment.
It will also help save the world's poor countries.

It's very true and quite worrying.
There is enough going on to already that causes so much damage and cryptocurrency mining is a whole new level.
Great initiative guys and I like the proof of stake idea for the environment sake

I think that the cost of each operation is a very important factor for the evolution of cryptocurrencies. any progress in that direction will be very good.
Regarding how to solve it, I believe that mining is done from equipment powered by alternative energies
that may be the way ....

Al Wallace

Food blogger with a diverse interest in investment/ crypto

The concern around the global impact of mining bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies has received a lot of press of late, China is even threatening to ban the mining of Bitcoin if the latest press is to be believed. Indeed, it is believed that the mining of Bitcoin alone uses 1% of the total power consumption globally. But as with any issue of this kind the solution is, in my opinion, multi-faceted. The onus is on the individual, companies and governments to do more.
Governments should be doing more to reduce the power generation through fossil fuels and nuclear fuels and invest and support through tax relief and grant schemes the production of wind farms, solar energy panelling and hydro electric power, as well as additional 'green' power as it becomes available. There are so many ways a dedicated, environmentally conscious government can do more! and this is where the change should start - from the top down.
Companies can also do much more, reduction of waste and production of energy from waste, investing in greener technology and indeed, as would seem to be the case with Azultec, coming up with ingenious ways to use the drawn energy in smarter ways or to reduce the energy altogether. Companies should be incentive drive to make these changes by local authorities, but it is admirable that some companies are setting the standard in this way. This is where Azultecs 'cube' is truly something innovative on the market.
Lastly, the individual should take more care to be conscious of his environmental impact through energy usage. Electricity meters, being considerate about turning lights etc off when not in use.
The road to a cleaner greener society is not one that can take a single strategy, it must be diverse, and each sector of society must be involved in caring for the planet we share. Ultimately, in a time when there is so much trouble in the world, surely that is one thing we can all proudly claim to have in common - our home.
There needs to be a revolution in the way we source and use our power needs, and not just for those of us who mine bitcoin or other cryptocurrency. Like most revolutions this wont start with millions of people but with a few, bright sparks willing to lead the way, even when the way is a road less travelled.
So lets celebrate those that are taking the lead and making things better for our World. The companies who, despite the fact it is almost certainly not the cheapest way to do business, are forging on ahead and surely, hopefully, others will follow.

I guess the effect of crypto mining is radiation, maybe for the solution I think is places of mining and the energy come from. I think solar system for the energy is better idea. Of course with the safe places, for example in the mountain.

If you can produce hydrogen and do your mining then you have slam dunked it. I always thought that was the natural progression of the electrical grid that it would find a way to monitise electricity in a more useful way after everyone was trained to think about it. As a closing thought if it could work with a heat exchanger you might be able to recycle some of the heat as electricity.

This is a very good product to be able to use recycle power to reduce the power consumption but since it is still using electricity it still has some down side, so I think maybe solar panel can be attached to it to provide a means of second power generation so that it can act and serve totally as a green means of power generation. But in general it is a good product and I think a lot of persons will find it very useful to use.

Anything that can reduce the negative effects from cryptocurrency mining power consumption is brilliant , mining isn't going to stop and the energy requirements are vast. But people certainly won't consider the negative environmental effects of mining when compared to (potentially vast) financial gains. So mining is going to continue and it's carbon footprint certainly needs to be addressed. The solution that most likely works? It has to be at the level of energy suppliers, therefore for me it has to be nuclear unfortunately, only thing I can see that will keep up with global energy demands in the cleanest way possible, but has to be used EVERYWHERE. Planting trees is a good thing, stopping deforestation a must, remove plastics from rivers and oceans, etc, all good things we should be doing, but technology is going to be the cure for this environmental sickness.

First it's good project and good thinking but it will still the Electricity problem, the power consumption is high, also the price of the cube is very high I think, if I would buy one how to get one with 7000$ and It will consume power with high value and the gain from it I don't know if it will cover this cost or else, I think you can put in that system solar cell or else to reduce the power consumption by it.
but it's good project and I think you'll achieve the customers opinion satisfying.

Your approach to the acquisition of heat energy is beautiful. The use of renewable energy in terms of the used energy resources will change the perspective of mining.

But you have come across examples. There are a lot of people doing this work with the use of illegal electricity.
Such events bring a negative perspective to this work.

For me, this should be done by using solar and wind energy.

I think that while cryptocurrency mining is important for maintaining decentralized economic system and while the environmental costs can't be simply rubbed off with comparison to legacy banking or precious metals, there are ways to focus on environmentally friendly ways to produce the energy needed to uphold the economy. I think that renewable energy, small modular nuclear reactors and use of waste electricity and heat will be of focus in the coming years. Especially waste streams can be used effectively in mining.

Don't listen to me because of who I am, I'm nobody like everone else.

Even though I have never been particularly concerned about the environmental impact of mining, which isn't so different to other industries - for example gold requires a lot of energy to find and dig up out of the ground - I still do agree that it would be better to try to reduce it. This could also reduce the cost needed to maintain the network as well as the environmental impact.

In all honesty I think the cost and difficulty of achieving roi will mean that not enough people use your machine to have a noticable impact on the electricity used by any particular crypto network, but if I turned out to be wrong about that and you could make it so that an ordinary person could expect to generate a profit from this then I would say it is really wonderful.

I have never owned an ASIC or a dedicated GPU miner before but I have a laptop with integrated dual nVidia graphics card which I used to mine back in the days. Starting mining of script algorithm based coins had the laptop so fired up that I had to get a cooling system for it because the rate it was going, something was likely to go wrong if something was not done to the amount of heat being dissipated from the GPUs. That is just an integrated dual GPU. Then I try to compare it with the assembly of 1080ti GPUs mining Ether and other coins with high difficulty. I could then imagine the amount of heat and energy being consumed by this process.
Not all coins or token are going to adopt the POS algo, so I would suggest we aim for a sensitisation method that will coerce developers into buying into the idea of POS consensus. And then also encourage the use of cryptonight or other GPU and ASIC resistant algos. Albeit still releasing some amount of heat and consuming energy, it is comparatively much lower and the Azultech technology can be able to convert not only 72% but the 100% of the energy being dissipated by the mining process easily.

looking a the co2 emission from recent times i will say that it is a very good project to try and reduce the rate at which c02 is being emitted, and thus i will say more way to greener way of providing power and with this the c02 emission levels will definitely go down by a lot. i will say that solar systems with wind pack up power systems should be develop to be able to tackle this problem since it is like the cleanest form of power generation.

I believe that the Bitcoin’s energy usage is huge and we can't afford to ignore it.. I always try to be as knowledgeable and as honest as possible.

I think it's quite ironic how we all think that cryptocurrency is the future, when the by-products of mining itself is destroying our planet. So yes, I definitely agree that we should have a more environmental-friendly mining process, if we still want to see the future of cryptocurrency come true, let alone the future of our planet.

That being said, I believe that using renewable energy is the real way to go. This applies not only to crypto-mining but to everything as a whole. I mean, it's already 2019. We should be advanced enough to lessen or even stop using fossil fuels now. Props to you for taking initiative on this issue, I'll definitely do some more research about you guys and what you're doing. And if this turns out to be feasible, there's a good chance my resources will be with you along the way. Keep it up! ;)

In an era were we keep preaching about the effects of global warming, I am strongly against the use of fossil fuels for the production of electricity, let alone for mining. Let's stick to environmental friendly practices.
I think improvements in solar, hydro, wind and other renewable power technologies ‚ôĽ have the potential to make mining much more climate-friendly in the future combined with what the Cube does already is the best option.

Large-scale use of fossil fuels is already causing serious problems in the natural environment such as air pollution and energy depletion.
Therefore, it is necessary to produce high efficiency crypto mining computer with the use of electricity of nuclear or solar.

This is not very environmentally friendly at the moment. That's why we need more energy from renewable sources.
I think, Solar and wind will work well

it sure takes a lot of power nowadays to mine crypto, but some do it just for the fun of it, even knowing that they are losing money by the end of the month. It's a conscious problem. Anyway, what I propose is that instead of using that proof of staking (which in my view is pointless and another way to prevent people to cash out) you guys do something with solar power or renewable energies, that would have my interest

Hello b p,

our products can be connected to solar panels. In high performance computing, a great deal of energy is lost as waste heat in general. Our products allow the use of this energy that would otherwise be lost. The hot water solution makes it possible to funnel the generated heat into an external heat storage tank and reuse it.
